I provide in-person, online and telephone sessions from Monday to Saturday.

My available hours are constantly changing. Please contact me for more information on my availability.

I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation where we can have a discussion about what brings you to therapy and what you want to achieve. I hope that this will give you a sense of how it might feel to work with me and offer you an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about how I work and how we might work together.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Claire. I specialise in supporting people to understand and manage the emotions that feel overwhelming, intense and exhausting. When we focus on healing what hurts, we can find new ways to live more effectively and build our self-confidence. Whatever your reason might be for starting therapy, you probably know something needs to change.

I am an experienced person-centred counsellor and work with a humanistic approach. This means that rather than telling you what to do, I will work alongside you to help you find your own answers. Even if things feel unclear right now, I believe those answers are already within you, we just need to find them.

I will offer you a safe, confidential space where you can share whatever feels heavy for you, and be met with warmth, acceptance, and understanding, without judgement. Together, we can explore the difficulties you’re facing, the impact they are having on your life, and the changes you want to make. We will work at a pace that feels right for you, and one that offers you the support you need to make the changes you want in your life.

Practice description

I describe my practice as a therapy space that offers both counselling and psychotherapy and sometimes a combination of both. People often ask about the difference between counselling and psychotherapy which can be answered in different ways by different people. In my opinion, counselling generally focuses on helping individuals address specific issues or challenges, such as coping with grief or managing stress, and tends to be shorter-term. Psychotherapy involves exploring deeper patterns of behaviour, thoughts, and feelings, often over a longer period of time, and can support personal growth and lasting change. In our early conversations, we will work together to determine your preferences around how you want to work or we can remain flexible to discover what works best for you as we go along.

If you’ve never had therapy before, you might not know what to expect. I often describe my therapy space as a place that feels like we’re working on completing a puzzle together. We’ll take some time to look at all the different pieces of how you are in your life, what you’ve experienced and how these experiences have influenced you. We’ll look at how the pieces fit together, creating a picture of how things are and why. Once we can see the clearer picture of how you experience your world, we can work out what might need changing and decide how you want to do that. The picture we eventually end up with, may be a very different way of seeing yourself, and offer you a way to understand yourself more fully. I believe therapy can be a journey of profound personal learning and self-discovery that leads to increase your confidence and raise your self-esteem. Quite often, after the first few sessions, people often tell me that they feel noticeably lighter and feel a sense of relief that is very much welcomed.

My first session

If you choose to work with me, our first session will focus on getting to know each other and exploring what it feels like to begin working together. I’ll ask a few questions about how you’re feeling as you start therapy and invite you to share what has brought you here. This session will give us both a first sense of how it feels to work together.

You may feel nervous as we come together for the first time, but I would like you to feel relaxed and at ease, as much as you can. You don’t need to have the ‘right words’ or know exactly what to say. All you need is a willingness to show up, just as you are. The rest will evolve naturally.

At the end of our first session we can take some time to reflect on how the first session felt for you and if any adjustments might be needed. If, after our first session, you decide to continue working with me, we will plan further sessions.
