About me and my therapy practice
My name is Shannon, and I offer secure online counselling, working integratively using person-centred, relational psychodynamics, and Gestalt therapy, which I can expand on during our first call. Each session lasts 50 minutes on a weekly basis, as I have found that consistent, regular sessions to be the most effective.
The foundation of our work will be rooted in compassion, non-judgment, and acceptance. We will discuss what you are hoping to gain from therapy, and together, we will seek to understand and make sense of the situations in ways that will be most beneficial to you.
My work is grounded in a person-centred approach, which means I will meet you with empathy, kindness, and without judgement, while supporting you to explore whatever has brought you to therapy. You may come with clear goals in mind, or simply a sense that something does not feel quite right, and we will check in along the way to make sure you are getting what you need from our sessions. Alongside this, I also draw on psychodynamic theory, exploring how past experiences, relationships, and upbringing may be shaping how you feel in the present. By gently building understanding and awareness together, we can work towards the changes you want to make in your life.
Anything can be brought to counselling; however, I have special interests in grief and bereavement, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harm and suicidal ideation.
Practice description
I offer a free, no-obligation 20-minute phone call to discuss what you are looking for from therapy and to ensure we are the best fit for you to get the most out of the sessions. From there, we will arrange a suitable date and time for our first session, during which I will gather more history and background to understand how best I can support you moving forward. Our sessions will be 50-minutes weekly initially, but this can be changed later down the line if required.
I predominantly draw on strategies that will help build a genuine relationship with yourself, grounded in empathy, non-judgement, and compassion, so you can freely explore what you need throughout the sessions. I won't set homework, but I may offer practical strategies and theories that I feel could aid your journey, but there is no obligation or pressure to use these. You are the expert of your life, and I will follow your lead in what it is you need.
My first session
After our initial 20-minute free consultation, I will send across our contract with an initial intake form, which will provide me with essential information so I know your needs, preferences, some history and circumstances of what has brought you to therapy. From there, we will arrange our first session, which will allow me to gather more information and begin our journey working together.
