About me and my therapy practice
I am a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø registered psychodynamic counsellor, in Edinburgh. I offer short and long term counselling for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship or job difficulties, illness, or trauma. I have prior experience in the NHS as a scientist and in Community Education.
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I extend the offer of a safe, compassionate, inclusive and confidential space. I welcome people of all cultures, races, religions, genders, sexualities, disabilities and neurodiversities and am open to challenge, where I fall short.
The psychodynamic approach considers the way in which our earliest life experiences tend to repeat themselves in patterns throughout our lives, in the relationships and jobs we chose and how we deal with life's difficulties.
Change can come about through a trusting and empathic relationship, when we learn to recognise and change these patterns, then become more true to ourselves.
Practice description
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Human Relations and Counselling, awarded by Robert Gordon University and accredited by COSCA. My PhD is in Medical Physics and I also have a PGDip in Community Education.
As a counsellor, I have worked in two Third Sector services, one for people experiencing long-term illness, their families and carers and one for people with mental health struggles, such as depression, anxiety, stress, loss, grief and past trauma. I am now in private practice.
I have almost 40yrs' prior experience in the NHS, as a scientist in cancer services and in Community Education, where I worked with people experiencing homelessness and in drug and alcohol services.
I am a member of ÌÇÐĹÙÍø and currently working towards Accreditation. I am insured through PPS and I am a PVG Scheme Member for regulated work with children and protected adults, in both support work and counselling. I work with ages 16+ years.
