About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychodynamic therapist working with couples and individuals with a focus on relationships. I trained at Tavistock Relationships, a leading centre for couple and relationship psychotherapy in London. I work with adults from a range of backgrounds, relationship structures, cultures, and sexual identities.
Alongside my private practice I am a visiting clinician and assessor at Tavistock Relationships in London.
I offer weekly sessions of 50 minutes on an open-ended basis. Work might be short-term for some people, but more often longer term to allow time for gaining deeper understanding and building lasting change.
Practice description
Many people come to therapy feeling stuck — perhaps having the same arguments repeatedly, struggling to communicate, feeling distant from one another, or unsure how to move forward following a rupture. I aim to create a space where these difficulties can be thought about carefully and honestly. Our aim in therapy will be to develop insight, improve communication and build understanding.
I work with individuals and couples who experience a range of difficulties, including:
• Conflict and repetitive arguments
• Feeling trapped in unhelpful relationship patterns
• Difficulties with communication and emotional connection
• Differences in needs, values, or opinions
• Infidelity and betrayal
• Intimacy, sexuality, and desire
• Parenthood and changes in family life
• Loss, grief, and endings
• Divorce and separation
• Life transitions and identity changes
• Anxiety, loneliness, and self-esteem within relationships
My approach is grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy and informed by attachment theory, helping people make sense of patterns that can feel painful, repetitive, or difficult to change.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is based on the idea that we are not always fully aware of what drives our feelings, choices, and relationships. Early experiences can shape how we deal with conflict, closeness, rejection, dependence, anger, or vulnerability in the present.
Attachment theory is part of this understanding. The relationships we grow up with often influence how safe and comfortable we feel with others later in life — how we respond when someone pulls away, how we manage emotional needs, or what happens when conflict appears. These responses can become deeply ingrained, especially in intimate relationships. Therapy helps bring curiosity and understanding to these patterns rather than blame or judgement.
My first session
If you would like to discuss working together, please reach out by using the form on the left or email me directly at info@sabinefochlertherapy.co.uk. We can then arrange a 15-minute free-of-charge phone call to discuss what you are looking for and any questions you might have. During this call we can decide if you would like to book an initial consultation. This will be a session of 75 minutes, dedicated to exploring the issues you want to work on in more depth, and to gather some background. This consultation will also give us an idea of what it might be like working together and if that feels right, before committing to ongoing work.
