About me and my therapy practice
Navigating life can be tough. It can often feel like steering through a stormy sea without a real sense of where you're going. By building a therapeutic relationship, we can work towards helping you to find your way…
I began my counselling voyage in 2016, gaining experience delivering group and one-to-one therapy to clients presenting a wide range of issues. I hold a Master's degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and have worked for multiple organisations and Charities that provide counselling services within the local community.
I am neurodivergent and have experience working with neurodivergent clients.
My work over the last ten years has involved delivering projects in partnership with NHS Talking Therapies, The National Lottery Community Fund, and charities/organisations that specialise in bereavement, loss, life-limiting illness, sexual health and working with people in the LGBT+ community. I also work within Employee Assistance Programs, delivering therapy to employees of private companies and local councils, including Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle Borough, Cheshire East, and Staffordshire County Council.
I work out of a private office in Newcastle-under-Lyme and can work with people on both short and long-term basis with adults of different ages and from various backgrounds.
Practice description
Life can throw up challenges when we least expect them, and when faced with stress and anxiety, we may feel overwhelmed, and our sense of who we are may feel lost or distorted when feeling like we are in the "eye of the storm".
Sometimes we may need a confidential safe space, free from external influences, to regroup and gain clarity about making changes we feel confident about, so we can move forward.
Effective therapy relies on building a working relationship; for me to understand what's going on for my client, it is important for them to feel comfortable in expressing how they feel. I never judge my clients or tell them what to do. Autonomy is a key part of therapy as it encourages the client to be the "Captain of their own ship", with the freedom to explore their thoughts and feelings by going in whichever direction they like, and at their own speed.
My first session
Overall, the first session is a convenient way for you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you and that I offer what you are looking for (Working as a person-centred therapist, I practice within a non-directive framework which gives the therapeutic process flexibility to be delivered to suit how you would like to work).
The first session consists of a free 15-20-minute phone call, during which you can ask any questions that you may have about counselling and the counselling process. It is also an opportunity to discuss your motivation for seeking counselling, your expectations of what you would like to achieve, and how we can work together (Your goals and way of working can be reviewed at any time during the counselling process).
