About me and my therapy practice

As a humanistic, integrative, children's and young person's counsellor, my work is underpinned by the Person Centred Approach. My work is very much trauma informed, because the impact that early childhood traumatic events can have on a person can be deep rooted. Trauma, neglect, shame and vulnerability, leave us unable to emotionally regulate, finding it difficult to make sense of relationships and our environment. Recognising the significance of trauma means that I work with compassion and sensitivity, helping clients to make sense of how they experience themselves and the world around them

When working with children and young people (8 to 18 years old), I work with where they are at developmentally and place them at the heart of the therapeutic process. I encourage them to explore their feelings and thoughts, helping them to gain a better understanding of who they are. I ensure that our sessions go at their pace, listening and accepting them and helping them to establish effective coping skills. I have extensive experience working with young people struggling with bullying, anxiety, depression and bereavement.

Having experienced my own childhood trauma, I am able to understand and recognise the impact and importance that a therapist can have and I will meet that child or young person with empathy and acceptance, and celebrate their resilience, strength and courage

Practice description

I offer counselling which centres upon that person's unique experience of how they view the world around them. I will help empower them, encouraging their self-awareness and supporting their growth. I truly believe that encouraging that person to have control of the work, in an atmosphere of unconditional positive regard and compassion, will help them to explore and make sense of what is going on for them.

I will bring curiosity, acceptance and understanding into our sessions, allowing them to just be who they are, free of judgement. The therapeutic relationship will be built upon mutual trust, where they will be held, valued and supported.

The space that I offer will help them to make sense of any difficult feelings that they may be having and we will work together, exploring their experiences and challenges, uncovering a deeper understanding of who they are. As the therapeutic journey progresses, they will start to become more aware of the unconscious patterns and behaviours which have shaped their thoughts, behaviours and emotions. This increased self-awareness, will allow them to be more accepting of the person that they are, so that they can reach their full potential, helping them to make healthier, positive choices in life.

My first session

The first meeting, will be a phone assessment, with the parent or caregiver, which usually lasts for 25 to 30 minutes. It will be an opportunity for you to chat about what is going on for your child or young person, what they are seeking to get from therapy, how we will work together, if you choose to work with me and an opportunity to ask any questions. You will also get a sense of the type of counselling that I offer

Should you then decide that you would like your child or young person to work with me, we will then arrange a suitable date and time, to meet up weekly, for a session that lasts for 50 minutes.

My current rates are £65 for an in person session
