About me and my therapy practice
You might have found your way here after a recent ADHD diagnosis, or because you’ve been wondering for a while.
Perhaps things have always felt a bit harder than they should. You may find yourself overthinking, feeling overwhelmed by everyday tasks, or being very self-critical despite trying hard. You might be masking around others and not quite feeling like yourself, or wondering why life seems easier for other people.
If that resonates, you’re not alone.
I’m Emma, a counsellor specialising in working with neurodivergent adults, including ADHD and autism. I am neurodivergent myself, and I understand how complex and emotional this can be, particularly later in life.
How I can help:
Therapy with me is not about fixing you. It is about understanding how your mind works and finding ways of living that feel more manageable and more like your own.
We might explore patterns such as overwhelm, burnout, or self-criticism, and gently make sense of where these come from. Together, we can begin to find ways forward that feel realistic and supportive for you.
Some people come to me feeling lost after a diagnosis. Others feel exhausted from years of masking or trying to keep up. Wherever you are starting from, we go at your pace.
Practice description
I use an integrative approach, drawing from person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT-informed therapy.
This might involve talking through what is going on for you now, exploring past experiences, and noticing patterns in thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I will not tell you what to do, but I will work alongside you to help you understand yourself more clearly and find ways forward that feel possible.
My first session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you are already overwhelmed. I aim to keep the process as simple and supportive as possible. There is no pressure to have the right words or to have everything figured out.
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and see if it feels like a good fit. We will cover a few practical details, but the focus is on you and what has brought you here.
Getting in touch:
If you’re thinking about reaching out but feel unsure, that’s completely okay.
You don’t need to be certain, and you don’t need to explain everything perfectly. A simple message is enough.
