About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Jennifer Risebury, a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø registered therapist with experience in person-centered and integrative therapy.

I understand that taking the first step towards therapy can be daunting, but I’m here to offer a non-judgmental, supportive space where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings. Whether you're facing challenges with self-esteem, anxiety, neurodiversity, or other aspects of life, I will work with you to reflect, guide, and unpack what's going on.

My approach is collaborative and tailored to you as an individual. I create a safe and open environment where we can explore your concerns, and I use various therapeutic tools to help you process emotions, develop self-confidence, and better understand yourself. Together, we’ll work on building the emotional resilience you need to move forward in a way that feels authentic to you.

I believe that therapy should empower you to make lasting changes, and I’m here to help you feel more confident, regulate your emotions, and navigate life's difficulties. My goal is for you to leave our sessions with a deeper understanding of yourself and a renewed sense of strength.

If you’re ready to explore how I can support you please get in touch.

Practice description

I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what is happening in your life and begin to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

My approach is primarily person-centred, which means I work at your pace and place importance on building a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship. I believe that being truly heard and understood can be a powerful part of healing and change. Alongside this, I may also draw on CBT-informed tools where helpful, such as exploring thought patterns, coping strategies, emotional regulation and practical ways to manage day-to-day challenges.

I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, relationship issues, low self-esteem, life transitions, trauma, domestic abuse, neurodiversity-related challenges and feeling overwhelmed or stuck. You may come to counselling with a specific issue, or you may simply know that things do not feel right and want a space to understand yourself better.

Sessions are collaborative and led by what feels most important to you. I will not tell you what to do, but I will support you to explore your feelings, recognise patterns, build self-awareness and reconnect with your own choices, strengths and values.

My aim is to offer a grounded, compassionate space where you can feel accepted as you are, while gently working towards the changes or understanding you are looking for. My hope is that therapy feels like a place where you can pause, breathe, untangle what feels difficult, and feel less alone with it.

My first session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to begin exploring what has brought you to counselling at this point in your life.

I understand that starting therapy can feel like a big step, so I aim to make the first session feel as comfortable and supportive as possible. There is no pressure to know exactly where to begin. We can take things at your pace and talk through what feels most important for you.

During the first session, I may ask some gentle questions about what you are hoping for from counselling, any current difficulties you are experiencing, and any relevant background information that may help me understand your situation. This also gives you the chance to ask me any questions about how I work and to get a sense of whether I feel like the right therapist for you.

We may also discuss practical details such as confidentiality, session times, boundaries, cancellations and what you can expect from working together.

The first session is not about having everything figured out. It is simply a starting point where we can begin to understand what support you need and how counselling may be helpful for you.
