About me and my therapy practice
During periods of change and significant transition, we may feel overwhelmed, anxious, incredibly sad, stuck or quietly unsettled.
We may be navigating professional uncertainties and responsibilities, relationship difficulties, ageing parents, childhood loss or more recent bereavement, struggle with low self-esteem or the impact of trauma or emotional neglect, all while appearing to cope on the surface.
I am a qualified psychotherapist, grief and loss counsellor and trauma-informed practitioner, with experience supporting both younger and older adults struggling with:
鈥 anxiety, worries and overwhelm
鈥 depression
鈥 low self esteem
鈥 grief and loss,
鈥 relationship difficulties,
鈥 significant life transitions;
experiences that often overlap and inform one another.
I bring a specialist focus on working with the effects of trauma: early adverse experiences and childhood trauma (which can surface at any point in life) as well as sexual and emotional abuse.
Therapy with me is not about 鈥渇ixing鈥 you. It is about understanding you and helping you relate differently to difficult thoughts and emotions so they do not run your life. Having the support of someone outside your usual world can help you recognise patterns, process what is happening and gain clarity about how to move forward.
Taking the first step can feel difficult but sharing your concerns and feelings with someone who will not judge you can bring huge relief. If you would like to ask a question or arrange an initial conversation, please get in touch. I offer a free 20-minute consultation, giving you space to decide whether working together feels right
Practice description
I hold an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling and have worked within the NHS and various therapeutic and mental health charities.
Connecting with people, hearing their stories and supporting those around me through difficult times has always been important to me. Training as a psychotherapist, I came to understand that insight alone does not always lead to change. Often, it is through a steady, trusting relationship that we begin to understand ourselves differently, what our choices are and how we want to move forward.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked for almost 20 years in the corporate legal world across Europe, an experience that informs my understanding of professional pressure and high-responsibility roles. Originally from Sweden and now living in London with 3 teenage children, I also bring an appreciation for cultural identity, family pressure and transition.
As an integrative therapist, I am trained in a range of psychotherapeutic approaches. This allows me to tailor my way of working to fit your specific needs, recognising that each person鈥檚 experiences and challenges are unique.
Alongside deeper relational and trauma-informed work, I draw on psychodynamic and existential approaches to explore how earlier experiences shape our behaviour today, with an understanding that they do not have to define who we are moving forward.Using psychodynamic perspectives, I help clients understand how past relationships and experiences may shape current patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating. While these insights are valuable, my work remains rooted in the here and now, supporting you to recognise how old patterns may be influencing the present moment.
My first session
Many people wonder what it might be like to come to therapy. I view the first session as an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for you to experience what it is like to work with me.
Feeling comfortable and safe is central to effective therapy, and it is important that you feel able to choose a therapist who feels right for you.
During the first session, we will explore your reasons for coming to therapy and discuss how we might work together. I may ask some questions about your family, relationships, work and current circumstances. You are always invited to share only what feels comfortable. This helps build an understanding of your background and the context for our work together.
This session includes time to review the therapy agreement, which I will share in advance so that you can read and reflect. You are welcome to ask any questions about the process, boundaries or practical arrangements.
I offer weekly sessions at an agreed time. Sessions are 50 minutes, with a 48-hour cancellation policy. The number of sessions will depend on your individual needs and circumstances.
