About me and my therapy practice
Hi and welcome to The Sanctuary Space, where I provide calm and compassionate counselling & psychotherapy for individuals and couples. Life can feel overwhelming sometimes and it can be helpful to have a network of friends and family around us. However, there may be times when that just isn't enough and we require a different type of support.
I use a pluralistic approach that is client-led, which means that I work at your pace using a flexible and collaborative style that helps you to make sense of what you need and want to help navigate life events. This way of working together allows me to adapt to you as an individual and how you choose to use our sessions, by providing a safe and supportive space to speak openly and identify your goals by exploring emotions, recognizing unhelpful patterns, and developing practical strategies for change.
I provide both short-term and open-ended therapy that can be structured and focused, or gentle and reflective, using our combined knowledge and life experience by incorporating elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, inner child work, humanistic, somatic, etc.,
Practice description
Beyond my private practice, I am also a counsellor with Relationships Scotland, and I hold a Certificate in Relationship Counselling (CERC) that allows me to work with couples and individuals.
I come from a midwifery background that has given me an additional insight for working with issues that involve relationship challenges, pregnancy, labour, birth, postnatal, depression & anxiety, loss & grief, self-esteem, trauma, and family of origin. I also have experience of providing counselling support for Fife Young Carers.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø), which means that I adhere to their ethical guidelines in my practice and I am required to maintain an appropriate level of competence in my client work. this is supported by regular supervision and an ongoing commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to expand and enhance my knowledge and skills. I also hold a Mental First Aid Certificate, and current Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate.
My first session
In our first session we can talk about what has brought you to counselling, and why now? We can explore what issues you would like to focus upon in our work together and what sort of approach is helpful for you to engage in the process in a meaningful way.
Gathering some background information about your life helps to provide a framework and a context for your current situation. It is also an opportunity for you to raise any questions or concerns you might have about counselling and what to expect, and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you.
