About me and my therapy practice

I work as a humanistic integrative counsellor with a strong person‑centred foundation, offering clients a warm, grounded, and genuine therapeutic relationship. My approach is collaborative and relational; I believe that meaningful change happens when clients feel truly heard, valued, and understood. I aim to create a safe, non‑judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace.

Alongside this, I integrate CBT tools and techniques where helpful. These can support you in understanding patterns of thinking and behaviour, developing coping strategies, and building confidence in managing day‑to‑day challenges. I use these approaches flexibly, always guided by what feels right for you and your goals.

My work is informed by over 30 years of experience in the emergency services, much of it in leadership and safeguarding roles. This background has given me a deep understanding of trauma, stress, anxiety, and the pressures people face in demanding environments. I also draw on my own lived experience of anxiety, panic, and bereavement, which helps me bring empathy, authenticity, and humanity into the therapeutic space.

Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or navigating a difficult life event, I offer a calm, steady presence and a supportive environment where you can make sense of what you are experiencing and move towards meaningful change.

Practice description

My practice offers face to face, online counselling, walk‑and‑talk therapy for adults seeking a supportive and grounded space to explore your emotional wellbeing. I can also come to you if that is easier. I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, stress, bereavement, low self‑esteem, work‑related pressures, and the impact of difficult life events. I have particular experience supporting people in high‑pressure roles, including public sector workers, I welcome clients from all backgrounds.

I bring over three decades of professional experience working with people in crisis, alongside extensive counselling training. My approach is humanistic integrative, rooted in person‑centred values and supported by CBT‑informed techniques. This means I offer a compassionate, relational space while also providing practical tools when they may be helpful.

Clients often describe me as calm, steady, and easy to talk to. I aim to create a therapeutic environment where you feel safe enough to explore difficult emotions, reflect on patterns in your life, and develop new ways of coping. I believe in working at your pace, respecting your autonomy, and supporting you to make choices that feel right for you.

Sessions are available face to face at my home, online or outdoors in nature, depending on your preference. Walk‑and‑talk therapy can be particularly helpful if you find movement grounding or prefer a less formal setting. Whatever format you choose, my focus is on offering a supportive, confidential space where you can feel heard and understood.

My first session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to explore what has brought you to counselling. We can talk about what you are experiencing, what you hope to gain from therapy, and any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share anything before you feel ready — the pace is entirely yours.

I will explain how I work, what you can expect from the therapeutic process, and how we can tailor sessions to suit your needs. We will also discuss practicalities such as session frequency, confidentiality, and whether face to face, online or walk‑and‑talk sessions feel right for you.

The first session is also a chance for you to get a sense of whether I am the right counsellor for you. A good therapeutic relationship is essential, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and supported. If you decide to continue, we will begin to shape a direction for our work together, whether that involves exploring your emotions, understanding patterns in your life, developing coping strategies, or simply having a safe space to talk.

Many clients find that the first session brings a sense of relief — a chance to pause, breathe, and be heard. My aim is to offer a calm, grounded presence and a space where you can begin to make sense of what you are going through.
