About me and my therapy practice

Do you want to get more out of life, find ways to stop feeling overwhelmed, or facing big life changes? Wondering if counselling and talk therapy might be the key?

I specialise in supporting adults in rural communities who feel overwhelmed, isolated, or impacted by significant life challenges. Many of my clients are managing the emotional strain of career-ending illness or injury, trauma, divorce, grief and loss - including the often overlooked grief that can accompany the loss of animals. I frequently work with people who are under pressure to keep going while experiencing anxiety, depression, and life with neurodiversity. Rural life can bring unique stresses and many people feel they must cope alone.

I will support you in a compassionate way to use psychotherapy to find your unique strengths, to help you make sense of what is happening in your life and find a way forward. There are a variety of approaches to the way therapists work with their clients, but one thing all effective therapy shares, and what I can provide for you is a confidential, warm, non-judgemental, supportive relationship.

As a pluralistic therapist I can introduce you to a range of different approaches, and I will customise your therapy around your choices, interests, and what works best for you. I offer online, face to face and walk and talk therapy in west Aberdeenshire, and cover Aberdeen. If you are interested in finding out more about how I work, or you have any questions please get in touch for a free 15 minute introductory call.

Practice description

Every journey is unique, and therapy is about finding what works best for you. We’ll move at your pace, exploring and processing your thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive space.

I offer an initial free phone or video call so we can speak about how I can best help you and arrange booking details.

Sessions last 50 minutes and can be:

  • Online sessions - We will meet via a secure online platform, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your own space. I’ll send you a private secure link ahead of each session. All you need is a quiet, private area and a stable internet connection.
  • In person sessions - I offer in-person therapy sessions at a welcoming in the heart of Aberdeen city centre. Meeting face-to-face can create a deeper sense of connection and trust, helping you feel more grounded and supported.
  • Walk-and-talk - Walk and talk sessions take place in quiet parks or trails in Deeside and Donside, Aberdeenshire. As a trained Health Walk Leader, I assess each route to ensure it’s safe and suitable. Walking side-by-side in nature can ease anxiety and offer a calming space to process thoughts. We will decide on the most suitable location for you, after an initial online or phone appointment to confirm the meeting arrangements.

I provide both short and long-term therapy and we will discuss the planned duration of our work together during our initial session. Each therapy session will last 50 minutes, and if you prefer there may be activities to complete on your own outside of sessions, for example journaling, reading, watching video or audio links, or completing a mood diary.

Every few weeks we will review progress and determine if you feel the therapy is helpful to you, and if any further work is necessary. I will see you on a weekly or fortnightly basis, at a time agreed between us.

My first session

In your first session, we’ll discuss what brought you to counselling, any previous experiences you may have had and what your preferences are in our work together so that I can tailor the therapy to your needs.

We will confirm your details, confidentiality, go through how I store your information, and I will invite you to complete a short assessment form.

You can ask any questions about the counselling process, or what you might expect.
