About me and my therapy practice

Hi welcome!

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected from yourself or the people around you. You may be carrying experiences from the past, struggling in relationships or worried about a teenager who has become withdrawn, shut down or difficult to reach. You might know something needs to change but unsure about where to begin.

As a qualified integrative counsellor and creative therapist, registered with ÌÇÐĹÙÍø and accredited with NCPS. I support teenagers, young adults, and parents of teenagers through in-person sessions in Edgware and online.

My work combines over 20 years of experience in education with a deep understanding of teenagers, trauma-informed practice, creative therapy, relational depth, EMDR and attachment-informed work. I will take time to get to know you, understand what has happened and explore how those experiences may be affecting your emotions, relationships and ways of coping today.

I support teenagers experiencing anxiety, exam stress, ADHD, AuDHD, emotional overwhelm, withdrawal, shutdown, self-harm and low self-esteem. I also work with adults affected by childhood trauma, attachment difficulties, abuse, suicidal thoughts, depression, stress, anger, relationship difficulties and communication breakdown.

You don’t need to arrive knowing what to say. Some people find it difficult to express themselves through words alone. Where it feels helpful, we may use arts. There is no pressure to work creatively.

I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where you feel heard, accepted and understood. I bring warmth, empathy, curiosity and, where appropriate, playfulness into our work together. My hope is to help make sense of your experiences, reconnect and find a way forward that feels right for you.

I hold a BA (Hons) in Psychology and postgraduate diploma in counselling teenagers through arts. I welcome people from all backgrounds. I hold an enhanced DBS, attend regular supervision and ongoing professional development.

Practice description

What to expect, is that I am not light in the ways in which I work. Each individual is unique, with their own story and experiences which shape them. My role will be to sit alongside you, providing guidance, safety and support as we navigate your struggles together. I believe that therapy is based on an intersubjective experience where you see your experience through mine. No one knows you better than you do. It’s ok not to be ok. I will provide you with the tools you need, supporting your empowerment and trust in yourself, to help you process past experiences and move forward with your life.

I offer therapy, that is deeply connected to self-governance. To reach that destination, for most of my clients, some obstacles are in the way. Being authentic to this process, we leave no stone unturned.

I am an integrative therapist, which means I tailor the work to you, rather than using one fixed way of working. Depending on what you need, I may draw on Transactional Analysis, relational therapy from a person-centred perspective, Gestalt, psychodynamic and humanistic approaches, parts work, storytelling, arts-based ways of working, PACE-informed practice, and EMDR.

I am registered with the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø and accredited with the NCPS. I work with ongoing supervision and continuing professional development. I offer both in-person (in Edgware, NW London) as well as online sessions.

Parents of teenagers. Please be aware that I will not have contact with any parent of a teenager that I am working with, except to arrange sessions and payment. I uphold the ethical provisions of therapy, and unless there is a significant risk of harm, I will not be feeding back the content of sessions to any parents or referring teenagers.

Please note I operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice may incur a 50% fee, although I am understanding of emergencies.

There is free parking on the street outside my practice, in Edgware.

My first session

I offer a complimentary introductory 30 minute call through Calendly on my website: vickyleaman-therapy.com, to ensure I am the right therapist for you. Following this, I would meet you face to face for your first session to gain a better understanding of the issue you would like support with. I am a Registered Therapist with the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø. I will ask that all sessions are paid upfront, either by bank transfer or cash.

I have current availablity.

All sessions are 50 mins long and cost £80 per session. A limited number of concessionary rates are available.

The first session of therapy will be a comprehensive assessment and a getting-to-know-you session, as well as, formulations of care and treatment plans. This session is with the client alone.

Before the session, I will send out my contract and information to you for you to see my terms and agreements of therapy. Please read through this, sign it, and bring it to the first session, or email it back beforehand, so that we can begin working together. For teenagers under 16, parental consent is a necessity.
