About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Counsellor with a person centred approach and specialist training in the use of arts in therapy, yoga based therapy for trauma and chronic stress and counselling for young people from the beginning of their senior school years to twenty five years of age of age dealing with a wide range of challenges including GAD, anxiety, panic attacks, low self esteem, abuse, family issues and the impacts of Neurodiversity, Autism and ADHD. I also work with parents and those supporting young people. I also work with parents and all those supporting young people.

As well as working with private clients I continue to work in Senior Schools with diverse populations. The young people I work with sometimes also have SEN requirements as well as experiencing mental health challenges so understanding different ways of processing and feeling comfortable in the sessions is important too.

Whilst sessions can sometimes consist just of talking, I offer art tools and yoga ( somatic) interventions in line with the needs of the client. Art tools can assist the client to bring and explore their feelings when they are hard to access or to talk directly about. Yoga based interventions, that is breath work, somatic awareness, movement and mindfulness are offered to regulate a dysregulated nervous system and support wellbeing.

In my work, the relationship with the young person or adult is of paramount importance in allowing space to find authenticity and express whatever is being experienced in the safety of feeling it is heard without judgement.

Please call to have a conversation, it s important to find the right Counsellor for you. Gill

Practice description

Sessions are always guided by what the client needs and finding the right pace and interventions for you.

I work to hear, listen, be curious, understand, truly empathise with and validate whatever is happening for the person I am working with. This is the foundation for allowing the client to feel emotionally safe and able to explore and process their experience.

First sessions are about getting to know each other and building a relationship in which you feel safe to talk and bring your experience. Sometimes though it is hard to talk, hard to find the right words, or just too much to say out loud. Being offered tools which assist in the exploration of what is happening or has happened for you can make accessing therapy a gentler but deeper experience.

Somatic interventions which calm the nervous system can assist and support you during the journey or can be the support you need during periods of stress.

The importance of having the right therapist to work with for you is paramount, so wherever possible a free phone call is offered ahead of a booking.

I offer a 30 minute free session or phone call  prior to booking and paying for a first session. This is so the young person can see if they comfortable working with me before committing to a longer period.
