About me and my therapy practice

Have you spent so long holding everything together that nobody realises how difficult things have become?

On the outside, you look like you're coping. You go to work, care for others, keep up with responsibilities and get through each day. But underneath it all, you're feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, stuck or simply not like 'you' anymore.

Whatever has brought you to my profile, you don't have to carry it alone.

I am Claire, founder of Clarus Counselling and Wellbeing. I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what's really going on. A place where you don't have to put on a 'mask', have the right words, or pretend everything is okay when it isn't.

Many clients tell me they quickly feel comfortable talking to me, even about things they have never shared before. That's because I firmly believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine human relationship built on trust, safety and understanding.

I am an Integrative Counsellor, meaning I work in a way that is tailored to you as an individual. Some people come wanting to understand why they feel the way they do. Others are looking for practical solutions to cope with anxiety, difficult emotions or challenging situations. Most people want a mixture of both.

Together we will explore what is happening for you, what might be keeping you stuck, and what might help things feel different. We will work at a pace that feels right for you, focusing on what matters most in your life.

You do not need to have everything figured out before starting, sometimes it is enough to know that something needs to change.

Practice description

I provide counselling for adults and young people aged 13+, offering face-to-face sessions in Glengormley and online video call counselling.

People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some are struggling with anxiety, stress, low mood or burnout. Others are coping with grief, loss, relationship issues, low self-esteem, trauma, painful life experiences or a significant life change. Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking support. Other times people simply know they are not feeling like themselves and want things to feel different.

My approach is collaborative and led by your individual needs. I do not believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy because every person brings their own experiences, strengths and challenges.

In our work together, we may explore thoughts, feelings, memories, relationships and patterns that continue to affect your life today. We may also look at practical ways of managing difficult emotions, reducing overwhelm and building healthier ways of coping.

You do not need a diagnosis, a label or a perfectly organised story before coming to counselling. We can start wherever you are.

I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for support, particularly if you have spent a long time carrying things on your own. My aim is to offer a space where you feel heard, respected and accepted, allowing you the opportunity to explore whatever is on your mind without fear of judgement.

Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, lost, disconnected or simply in need of somewhere to talk, I will meet you with compassion and genuine care.

My first session

I understand that your first session especially can feel daunting. Many people worry they will not know what to say, become emotional, or struggle to explain what has brought them to therapy. Please know that all of this is normal and completely okay.

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, and explore what has brought you to counselling at this point in your life. I complete a full assessment during this session, which helps me gain a better understanding of your current difficulties, your personal circumstances and what you hope to achieve through therapy.

We will also talk about how counselling works, including confidentiality, boundaries and any questions you may have about the process.

There is no pressure to share anything you are not ready to talk about. We will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and you remain in control of what you choose to bring to sessions.

Most importantly, the first session is a chance for you to get a feel for me and how I work. Finding the right counsellor is important, and I believe you should have the opportunity to decide whether I feel like the right 'fit' for you.

You do not need to prepare anything beforehand. You can simply come as you are, and I can take it from there.
