About me and my therapy practice
When life feels overwhelming, confusing, or quietly painful, reaching out for support can be the hardest step. You might be feeling anxious, exhausted from holding everything together, grieving someone or something you’ve lost, or wondering why life suddenly feels so much harder that it used to. You don’t have to figure it out on your own.
I’m Kate from Blue Waves Counselling in Sowton, Exeter, offering trauma-informed counselling for adults who are navigating bereavement, grief, loss, and life transitions. I provide a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can explore what’s happening for you at your own pace — and begin to feel steadier, clearer, and more like yourself again.
Grief isn’t only about death.
I also support people experiencing living losses such as estrangement, caring for others, changes in identity, grieving linked to chronic illness, adult-diagnosed ADHD, menopause, infertility, coercive control or abuse, divorce, empty nest syndrome, estrangement, or retirement. These experiences can leave you feeling lonely, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure of who you are now.
I believe grief has two parts: the loss itself, and the rebuilding of life afterwards. I walk alongside you as we face your loss together and begin the process of rebuilding.
How Counselling Can Help?
Together we’ll make sense of what’s happened, rebuild your sense of self and help life feel manageable again. A future that feels safer, calmer, and more hopeful.
What Clients Often Share.
Clients often describe their counselling sessions as life-changing. They report feeling seen, heard, understood, and lighter, with a deeper awareness of who they are and what they need moving forward.
Many clients find that anxiety eases, brain fog lifts, and they feel more confident, calmer, more grounded, and more able to cope.
Practice description
Does life feel like an uphill struggle, but you’re not sure why? Do you feel stuck? Do you feel like you’re more sensitive than others? Are you feeling anxious, low in confidence, lonely, or worried about what lies ahead? Is a good night sleep a thing of the past? Counselling can help you explore these feelings and help you see the path forward more clearly.
Our work together will always be tailored to your individual needs. Whether you’re seeking help for a specific issue or more general emotional support, my role is to help you understand what you’re going through and to support you in creating meaningful, lasting change.
I understand how difficult it can be to take that first step and ask for help. Counselling offers you the opportunity to slow things down, make sense of your thoughts and feelings, and develop a clearer understanding of yourself.
You don’t have to wait until you’re at breaking point to come to counselling.
Many of the people I work with are still going to work, caring for others and getting through each day. From the outside, they seem to be coping. Inside, they’re exhausted from carrying so much on their own. Counselling can support personal growth, improve relationships, and create a deeper connection to yourself, helping you build a more fulfilling and balanced life. Counselling offers a space where you no longer have to carry it alone.

I also offer Rewind Therapy in Exeter, which is a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps reduce or remove the emotional intensity attached to traumatic memories. It can be effective for PTSD and trauma, without requiring you to revisit distressing experiences repeatedly.
