About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Sam. I’m a registered psychotherapist offering a warm, confidential space where you can talk openly about what’s going on for you.

Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step. You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, grieving, living with the effects of trauma, or trying to make sense of changes in your life or health. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to face it alone.

I work in a collaborative and compassionate way, believing that feeling genuinely heard and understood is at the heart of meaningful change. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs and pace. Some people prefer gentle conversation and reflection, while others find creative approaches, imagery or metaphor helpful. Together, we'll discover what feels most supportive for you.

I work in a trauma-informed way, paying close attention to what feels safe and manageable, particularly if you experience intrusive thoughts, fear or self-criticism.

Alongside my private practice, I have experience working in NHS outpatient settings, supporting adults living with emotional distress alongside physical health challenges. I have also worked in a hospice, supporting people and their families through life-limiting illness and bereavement. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of how closely emotional and physical wellbeing are connected, especially during times of uncertainty and loss.

At the heart of my work is a belief that people have the capacity to heal, grow and reconnect with themselves. My role is to support you with warmth, compassion and curiosity as you find your own way forward.

My hope is that you'll leave each session feeling understood, supported, and a little less alone.

Practice description

I offer one-to-one therapy for adults in a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space. Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually held weekly, either in person from my private home-based practice, online or by telephone.

I support people experiencing anxiety, intrusive thoughts, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, life changes, and the emotional impact of physical health conditions. I also have experience working with clients living with OCD.

Therapy is tailored to your individual needs. Together, we may explore patterns from the past, develop practical ways of coping in the present, or gently work towards greater self-understanding and emotional resilience. Where helpful, I may incorporate creative approaches, imagery or metaphor, always at a pace that feels safe for you.

Above all, I believe that feeling genuinely heard, understood and accepted creates the conditions for meaningful change, and I aim to offer a relationship where you feel able to explore whatever is on your mind without judgement.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute introductory phone call before arranging a first appointment. This gives you the opportunity to briefly share what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions and see whether working together feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue.

If we decide to go ahead, our first full session lasts 50 minutes. This is a space for you to talk in more depth about what is happening in your life and what you would like support with. We will explore your hopes for therapy and begin to think about how we might work together.

I may ask a few gentle questions about what’s been happening for you and any support you have around you. This simply helps me understand you better and think about how best to support you.

The first session is as much about you getting a feel for me as it is about me getting to know you. A strong therapeutic relationship is central to effective therapy, so it’s important that you feel safe and comfortable.
