About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Samantha Chater, a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø registered counsellor and hypnotherapist with many years of experience supporting people through life’s ups and downs. I support adults, often in midlife, who feel caught between who they were and who they are becoming. Many come to therapy feeling lost, restless or unsure of themselves as life shifts around them.

I work with anxiety, loss, trauma, relationship difficulties and life changes, and I also support adults with ADHD, whether formally diagnosed or beginning to recognise those traits in themselves.

Sometimes this links to earlier experiences, long-standing people-pleasing, or coping patterns that once helped but now leave you feeling drained, disconnected or stuck. This might include staying busy, keeping the peace, shutting down feelings, always putting others first, using alcohol to cope, or feeling overwhelmed by ADHD-related patterns.

However we meet, I offer a calm, understanding space where you can talk openly, breathe, and begin to feel more like yourself again. My role isn’t to judge you or tell you what to do. I’m here to help you slow things down, make sense of what’s going on underneath, and understand why you respond the way you do.

Together, we can begin to untangle old patterns, quieten self-doubt, and explore what you need now, rather than what has been expected of you. Therapy gives you space to understand your feelings more clearly, reconnect with who you are, and start making choices that feel more in keeping with your life today. Where helpful, hypnotherapy can also support anxiety, confidence, overwhelm, ADHD-related challenges, or long-standing habits.

If you’re carrying the impact of difficult childhood experiences or trauma, we can gently explore how those early experiences may have shaped the ways you learnt to cope, protect yourself, or keep the peace. My aim is to help you make sense of your story, find steadier ground, and feel more connected to yourself.

Practice description

I offer face-to-face counselling from rooms at Thrive Wellbeing Hub in Sale (M33), central Altrincham (WA14), and the Nebula Centre (M31), as well as online and telephone sessions. I also offer Walk and Talk sessions.

I currently have availability for new clients and can offer flexible daytime, evening, and weekend appointments.

You are welcome to book a free 20-minute initial telephone call to see whether working together feels right for you.

Please get in touch to discuss my current availability.

My first session

After an initial telephone chat, the first session is where we begin working together in a more focused way. You can bring whatever feels most important, and we will start from there, at a pace that feels right for you.

I may ask some questions as we go, but there is no pressure to tell me everything in one session. Some people want to start with what is happening now, while others begin by talking about what has led them here. We can work in the way that feels most manageable for you.

This first session is also the start of building trust and creating a space where you can talk openly and feel supported
