About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling lost, confused or overwhelmed? Struggling with the demands of life or haunted by your past. Dealing with anxiety, racing thoughts or over thinking. Have you recently been diagnosed with : ADHD/ADD, Autism or AUDHD or have been wondering for a long time if maybe you are neurodivergent. Do you have questions around your childhood and whether your experiences in your family are still impacting your relationships and life now?
I'm Becky. A Neurodiversity-affirming Counsellor who is passionate about supporting clients to live better lives and become more connected with who they are.
It may be you had a difficult childhood or are now wondering was that 'normal'. You are haunted by memories or feel stuck, trying to move forward but aren't sure how to do this or what this might look like. You may feel conflicted by feeling love towards family members but also question the way they have treated you.
I am a warm, friendly, Person Centered Trauma Therapist. I am passionate about working with clients who have experienced trauma, particularly through childhood experiences. I believe our experience of childhood is fundamental in shaping how we manage adulthood, our ability to implement boundaries and know ourselves well enough to make the right decisions for us.
It can be additionally challenging if, you've realised later in life that you are Neurodivergent and you are trying to make sense of which 'parts' of you are your Autism/ADHD/AUDHD/ADD etc and which 'parts' of you are driven by difficult past experiences.
I am a registered member of the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø, qualified in Person Centered Counselling, with further qualifications in working with Adult Trauma. I have additional training in trauma and mental health, dissociation and somatisation and Shame.
I am also a parent to Neurodiverse children.
My background is working with:
Adults who have experienced childhood abuse
Substance use and addiction
Young adults who are Neurodivergent
Working with Armed Forces Personnel
Practice description
I work with clients online (based anywhere in the UK) or in Person. In person sessions are possible in Warrington/Lymm/Altrincham and Urmston. Online sessions are £45 and in person sessions are £50 (this reflects the cost of counselling room hire). I also offer telephone based counselling for £45.
I offer a 20- 30 minute free consultation to allow you to get a sense of how I work. This gives you the chance to speak to me on the telephone or online, asking any questions you may have and then take the time to decide whether you feel I am a good fit for you.
Typically sessions take place weekly and are 50 minutes long. However if you are looking for something different we can also explore this. For example, some clients prefer a 90 minute session fortnightly.
You do not have to commit to a minimum number of sessions. Most people find they want to access 6 or more sessions but we would review this every 4 sessions to see how you are finding our work together. There is never any pressure to continue. It is important it feels right of you and that it is financially viable for you.
I work with clients who are both Neurotypical and Neurodiverse. Some client feel they would like to use some of the time to explore how their Neurodiversity impacts them and spend some time on this education/understanding. Others do not. There is no right or wrong way.
If we are working with past experiences that were traumatic we will work at a pace that works for you, never rushed and always with safety in mind. I will help you to understand your own body's responses to this Trauma and how to heal and cope with your past so you can feel better able to move forward.
My first session
What to expect in your first session:
Prior to starting your first session you will receive a welcome email which covers the basics around payment/booking future sessions/contact outside of sessions and cancelling sessions.
We start the first session with a discussion around how we will work together, covering areas like confidentiality, how I work and what you are hoping to get from attending therapy (don't worry if you aren't sure). Often clients just know things aren't ok as they.
If you are feeling nervous about anything in particular, have questions or want to share things about yourself such as your preferences in communication or things it would be helpful for me to know about you we can do this then (if we haven't covered this in your consultation).
There is no expectation to make eye contact or come with a clear understanding as to exactly why you are here! and it is also fine if, in later sessions you want to share something with me that you didn't feel able to at the start. This actually happens all the time and is perfectly understandable.
As each session progresses we can build our understanding of each other and work on the areas that you are drawn to. I offer a safe space, with no judgement. We will take a little time every 4 sessions to check how things are going, whether our work is helpful and whether there is anything I can do to make our therapy feel more accessible for you. It is also ok if you find yourself working on areas you didn't ever anticipate! this happens all the time.
