About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Joanna.

I am a bilingual integrative counsellor offering therapy in English and Polish.

My journey to counselling has been shaped by a rich combination of life, educational, and professional experiences. Alongside building a life in the UK, I have pursued both creative and academic studies, including design, psychology, and counselling. Professionally, I have worked across a range of sectors, supported people from diverse backgrounds, and managed my own business for over a decade. These experiences have deepened my understanding of people, relationships, resilience, and the many challenges that can arise throughout different stages of life.

These life experiences have reinforced my belief that there is no single way of understanding people. Each person brings their own unique story, strengths, challenges, values, and experiences. As a counsellor, I aim to meet you as an individual and provide a space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions, or feeling stuck, I offer a warm, supportive, and confidential environment where we can explore what is important to you.

Practice description

I work as an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches to suit your individual needs. I do not believe that one approach works for everyone, so I tailor therapy to your unique circumstances, experiences, and goals.

My work is grounded in the person-centred approach, which places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of meaningful change. I aim to provide a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.

Alongside this, I may draw on psychodynamic ideas to help us understand how past experiences and relationships may be influencing your life today. Where appropriate, I may also use CBT-informed techniques to support you in developing practical strategies for managing current difficulties.

Some sessions may focus on exploring emotions, relationships, and life experiences, while others may focus on current challenges and practical coping strategies. We will work together to find an approach that feels right for you.

I see counselling as a collaborative process. Rather than telling you what to do, I will work alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and respect. Together, we can explore patterns, gain deeper self-understanding, and find ways of moving forward that feel meaningful and sustainable for you.

My first session

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and you may have questions about how it works or whether I am the right therapist for you.

You are welcome to email me to arrange a free 20-minute introductory call. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions you may have, and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue after this conversation.

If you decide you would like to proceed, we can arrange an initial session. Should we both feel that ongoing therapy would be helpful, and I have suitable availability, we will agree on a regular appointment time that is reserved for you.

Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly at the same time each week. In some circumstances, after we have established our work together, we may agree to meet fortnightly depending on your needs, circumstances, and what feels most appropriate for the therapeutic process.

Before our first session, I will send you a counselling agreement outlining practical details such as fees, cancellations, holidays, confidentiality, and how we will work together. We can discuss any questions you may have during our first session, and you are always welcome to ask questions before then.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor offering a warm, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which you can explore whatever has brought you to counselling. I work at a pace that feels right for you, with care, curiosity, and respect for your individual experience.

To my work I bring a deep appreciation for the diverse experiences that shape who we are. My personal and professional journey has involved living and working across different cultures and communities, which has heightened my sensitivity to issues of identity, belonging, transition, and resilience, themes that often arise in therapy.

I came to counselling through my own journey of self-reflection and healing, which gave me a lived understanding of how powerful it can be to feel truly heard and met with compassion. This experience continues to inform how I work, allowing me to meet clients with openness, honesty, and respect for their unique stories.

Practice description

My practice is integrative, meaning I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to respond to your individual needs. While I integrate different modalities, my work is grounded in a Person-Centred approach, with the belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is central to meaningful change. I aim to offer a relational, reflective, and client-led space where we can explore your experiences together and make sense of what feels difficult or stuck.

My first session

Life can be difficult at times, and in those moments it is easy to lose touch with our inner strength, wisdom, and sense of direction. From a Person-Centred perspective, I believe that the decision to seek help is often where this inner wisdom becomes most visible. Another meaningful moment follows in choosing who to turn to for support, which can also be guided by an inner sense of what feels right.

In the first session, when we meet and begin to form the foundations of the therapeutic relationship, we create space to notice and honour this inner process. The session allows us to begin building connection, trust, and understanding, and to sense whether we can work together in a way that supports healing, growth, and change. In this way, the first session becomes a shared confirmation of whether entering a therapeutic relationship together feels appropriate and supportive.
