About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Shu. I’m a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults. I offer online therapy across the UK, alongside in-person sessions in Battersea and Balham, South West London.
I work with people who have spent much of their lives showing up for others. You may be thoughtful, capable and used to carrying responsibility, while feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low in mood, or disconnected from yourself. Many of the people I support come to therapy because they are ready to pause, reflect, and live in a way that feels more aligned and authentic.
My way of working is calm, relational and collaborative. I offer a confidential, emotionally safe and culturally sensitive therapeutic environment where you can speak openly and feel genuinely heard. I work with people experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, burnout, low self-esteem, relationship concerns, and periods of transition or change.
Together, we explore what has shaped you, including past experiences, relationships, and family or cultural influences, and how these continue to affect you today. I support you in developing greater understanding, self-compassion and choice, so that you can move forward with more clarity, balance and confidence.
Practice description
My therapeutic approach is rooted in person-centred and psychodynamic therapy. This means our work is shaped around you, your pace, and what feels most important to explore within a respectful and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
In sessions, we explore emotional patterns that have taken shape over time, such as people-pleasing, self-criticism, overthinking, or difficulties with boundaries. We look at how past experiences influence the present, while staying grounded in what you are living with now and what feels most important for you to understand or change.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low mood or depression, burnout, low self-esteem, relationship and attachment difficulties, as well as grief, loss and major life changes linked to work, identity or life transitions. I have experience working with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and life stages, and I hold careful awareness of how culture, identity and social context shape emotional wellbeing.
Before training as a therapist, I spent over 20 years working in the corporate sector, primarily in HR. This experience gives me a strong understanding of workplace pressure, responsibility and burnout, and how sustained stress can affect confidence, identity and mental health over time.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute online consultation as a first step into therapy. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions, for me to understand what you are looking for, and for us both to get a sense of whether working together feels right.
If we decide to continue, ongoing therapy typically takes place weekly, with 50-minute sessions. The first full session is slightly different from ongoing sessions. We'll go through some practical aspects of working together, including confidentiality, boundaries, and any questions you may have. We'll also begin to explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. We may touch on your background and any current challenges you are facing, but there is no pressure to share anything you're not ready to. We'll move at a pace that feels manageable for you.
If you would like to learn more or book a consultation, please contact me or visit my website for further information.
