About me and my therapy practice
Life can quietly wear you down — low mood, stress, anxiety, or the sense that you're running on empty and can't quite get back to yourself. Often, what brings someone to therapy runs deeper than the problem on the surface. Whether it's addiction, anxiety, low mood, or relationship difficulties, these struggles are often rooted in past experiences and long-standing patterns.
I'm Joanna, a Recovery Coach and Integrative Counsellor supporting adults with trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, ADHD, relationship difficulties, and life's wider challenges. My approach is warm, calm, and non-judgemental, creating a space where you can speak openly and honestly. Alongside support and understanding, I may gently challenge unhelpful patterns to help you move forward.
For over 14 years, I have worked within addiction, recovery, and mental health settings, including residential treatment environments. This experience has shown me that lasting change rarely comes from willpower alone. It comes from understanding what drives our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and making sense of experiences that may still be affecting us today.
As an integrative therapist, I combine Person-Centred Therapy, CBT, and NLP to offer both understanding and practical change. Together, we'll explore the underlying causes of your difficulties while developing the tools, confidence, and resilience needed to create meaningful, lasting change.
When you're ready, I'd be glad to hear from you. The first step is simply a conversation.
Practice description
My practice offers a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you. Whether you're facing challenges in your relationships, work, family life, or emotional wellbeing, the starting point is the same: understanding what's really going on and finding a way forward that feels right for you.
Sessions are led by you and paced to suit your needs — there's no fixed formula. Early on, we'll focus on building trust and developing a clear understanding of what's keeping you stuck. I'm interested in more than the what; I want to understand the why beneath it. Together, we'll explore the patterns, experiences, and beliefs that may be influencing how you feel today.
My work is trauma-informed throughout, which means I pay close attention to safety, choice, and pace. I won't push you to revisit more than you're ready for, and I recognise that many of the ways we think, feel, and behave make sense when viewed in the context of our life experiences.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on three main approaches and tailor them to your individual needs. Person-Centred Therapy (PCT) sits at the heart of my work, providing a warm, accepting, and non-judgemental relationship in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) brings practical structure, helping you understand the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, while developing new ways of responding. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) offers additional tools to challenge unhelpful patterns and strengthen confidence, resilience, and self-belief.
Therapy is not about being told what to do. It's about creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported, while developing the insight and practical tools needed to make meaningful and lasting change.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute introductory call, giving us the opportunity to talk through what's bringing you to therapy and to see whether we feel like a good fit to work together. Choosing a counsellor is an important decision, and it's essential that you feel comfortable, understood, and able to ask any questions you may have.
If you decide to move forward, our first session will focus on getting to know each other in more depth and building an understanding of what has brought you to therapy. We'll discuss what you would like to achieve, any concerns or hesitations you may have, and how we might work together going forward. We'll also cover practical aspects such as confidentiality, the counselling agreement, and arrangements for future sessions.
There is no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions. Some people come with a specific issue they would like support with, while others choose to use therapy as a longer-term space for reflection, growth, and change. Together, we'll find an approach that feels right for you.

My practice offers a calm, confidential space for adults working through the pressures of work, relationships, and everyday life, as well as trauma, low mood, anxiety, anger, depression, and addiction. Sessions are led by you and paced to suit you, there's no fixed formula. Early on, we'll focus on building trust and developing a clear understanding of what's keeping things stuck. I'm interested in more than the 'WHAT'; I want to understand the 'WHY' beneath it, looking beyond the presenting issue to its roots. My work is trauma-informed throughout, which means I pay close attention to safety, choice, and pace, never pushing you to revisit more than you're ready for. I recognise that how we think, feel, and behave today often makes complete sense in the light of what we've lived through.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on three main approaches and tailor them to your individual needs. Person-Centred Therapy (PCT) sits at the heart of how I work. It is based on the belief that, given a genuinely warm, accepting, and non-judgemental relationship, people have a natural capacity to understand themselves, grow, and move towards positive change. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) adds practical structure, helping you recognise the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develop new ways of responding. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) offers additional tools to shift unhelpful patterns and build a calmer, more resilient relationship with yourself.
This combination can be particularly helpful when working with trauma and PTSD, where painful experiences can remain active in the present long after the events themselves have passed.
Together, we'll work gently to process and make sense of the past, helping it loosen its grip so it no longer quietly shapes your day-to-day life.
