About me and my therapy practice
We seek counselling for different reasons.
Sometimes something comes out of the blue, difficult things from the past begin to surface, or many small things build up and overwhelm us. We feel anxious, low, or angry. Sometimes we simply don’t feel right but we don’t know why. Whatever’s going on for you right now, talking can help. By thinking together about the difficulties you’re experiencing, we can come to a greater understanding of what lies beneath. We can identify default patterns and find empathy and compassion.
Understanding and insight can lead to resilience and the potential for change.
I work psychodynamically, which means I believe that our current difficulties often have echoes or origins in our earliest experiences. We may not consciously remember them, but these experiences leave imprints and templates which shape how we relate to others and how we cope with difficulties. Sometimes these templates no longer serve us; by noticing and understanding them, we can begin to make adaptations which serve us better. I work with gentleness and curiosity, by your side, and at a pace directed by you. This means that even though difficult emotions may arise in counselling, together we can make sense of them.
Practice description
I am a trained psychodynamic counsellor with experience supporting many different individuals with a range of issues. I’m professionally registered with the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø and abide by the highest ethical, legal, and professional frameworks. I work with regular clinical supervision and am in ongoing therapy myself. I strive to deliver an inclusive, equitable, confidential, and empathic service.
I am committed to supporting the mental health of performers and creatives, and reserve a small number of reduced fee sessions for students and new graduates of these professions.
My first session
How it works..
Step one: If you would like to get in touch, we can arrange a free fifteen-minute phone call. This is an opportunity for both of us to see if we would be a good ‘fit’.
Step two: If we decide to go ahead, we can book in an initial meeting. In this, I will ask you about the difficulties you are facing, and a bit about your background and early experiences. It’s an opportunity for us to discuss how the counselling will work, and for you to raise any questions or concerns.
Step three: From there, we begin. The sessions will be led by you, with gentle and curious questions from me to prompt further thought. Therapy can seem daunting, and it is true that sometimes strong emotions come to the surface which have been long buried. It’s not a quick or easy ‘fix’. It’s a steady, meandering course towards greater self-understanding and acceptance.
What I can help with
Abuse, Addictions, Adoption, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Baby loss, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Coercive control, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Narcissism, Neurodiversity, Obsessions, OCD, Pet bereavement, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sensory impairment, Service veterans, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stalking, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
