About me and my therapy practice

Certified psychotherapist and Sunday Times bestselling author. Former Daily Mail investigative journalist. I work with identity issues, anxiety, depression, and lost or disconnected parts of the self.

Transformational Retrieval Therapy (TRT) is a hybrid therapeutic method.

At its heart lies a simple but profound idea:

When we suffer psychological distress, something of the self has been lost, hidden, or exiled.

Transformational Retrieval Therapy helps individuals gently locate and retrieve those missing parts.

Drawing on a unique integration of hypnotherapy, Jungian psychology, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and ancient retrieval practices, TRT guides the client into a focused inner state where memories, symbolic images, and disowned aspects of the personality can safely emerge.

Within this state, the psyche often communicates through powerful imagery; guardians, animals, forgotten rooms, childhood landscapes, or fragments of the self waiting to be found.

The work is not about analysing these images from the outside.

It is about entering the landscape of the psyche and bringing the lost parts home.

Through guided inner exploration, clients may encounter:

• younger selves frozen in time

• protective parts that have carried overwhelming burdens

• forgotten strengths and qualities that were once suppressed

• emotional memories held in the body

• symbolic figures representing wisdom, protection, or healing

The therapeutic process allows these parts to be recognised, understood, and integrated back into the living personality.

Over time, clients often report a deep sense of restoration:

• feeling more whole

• greater emotional stability

• relief from long-held patterns

• renewed vitality and identity

• a sense that something essential has returned.

In this way, Transformational Retrieval Therapy is not only a treatment for symptoms. It is a process of psychological homecoming.

A return of the self to itself.

Practice description

My practice focuses on helping people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves. Often, by the time someone comes to see me, they have already tried to understand what is happening but still feel caught in patterns that do not fully make sense.

I work from the understanding that psychological distress is often connected to parts of the self that have become hidden, cut off, or burdened through difficult experiences. These parts may continue to influence how someone feels, thinks, and relates to others, often without their full awareness.

My approach, Transformational Retrieval Therapy, draws on parts-based work, Jungian psychology, and focused inner exploration. Rather than working only at the level of discussion, sessions may involve exploring the inner landscape of the psyche in a calm and structured way, allowing different aspects of the self to emerge and be understood.

This is not about analysing from a distance, but about helping people reconnect with the parts of themselves that may have been lost or pushed aside. Over time, this can lead to a greater sense of clarity, emotional stability, and a more coherent sense of identity.

I offer a thoughtful, contained space where this work can unfold at a pace that feels manageable and appropriate for each person.

My first session

When someone first comes to see me, I take time to understand their life story, the experiences that have shaped them, and the patterns that may be influencing their present. Many people arrive feeling confused, stuck, or disconnected from themselves — repeating patterns in relationships, anxiety, or emotional states that no longer make sense.

In these early conversations, we begin to identify where something may have been lost, hidden, or forced to adapt in order to survive difficult experiences. Protective parts of the personality may have developed, while other parts may have withdrawn or become less accessible.

I work with the understanding that these different parts continue to shape how we feel, think, and relate to others, often outside of our awareness.

Once these patterns become clearer, the work can move into a deeper stage.

Using a calm and focused approach, similar to guided hypnotherapy, clients are invited to explore their inner world in a structured and contained way. Within this space, the psyche often communicates through imagery, memory, and sensation, allowing deeper aspects of the self to emerge.

People may become aware of protective parts, emotional memories, or earlier versions of themselves that have been carrying unresolved experiences. The aim is not simply to analyse these from a distance, but to engage with them directly and understand their role within the personality.

From there, the work becomes one of retrieval and integration — helping these parts reconnect with the present self so that the personality can function more fully and coherently.

Many people experience this as a gradual but meaningful shift: a greater sense of clarity, emotional stability, and a feeling that something essential has returned.

In this sense, therapy is not only about addressing problems. It is about restoring connection to the deeper structure of the self.

A process of returning to oneself.
