About me and my therapy practice
It is important that you find the right therapist, for you. I aim to offer you a safe space in which you can feel attuned to, accepted, empathised with and accompanied, as you work through whatever you need to.
Practice description
I started counselling as a volunteer over 35 years ago, and have worked in a variety of settings, alongside a career in business and charity management.
My practice is humanistic and integrative, which translated means that I believe you have your answers within you, and my role is to help you find them by listening kindly to you, gently understanding you to the best of my ability, and using other therapeutic approaches I am trained in, where I feel they might help.
Our time together is your space, to use as you wish. I try to create an environment in which you can feel truly seen and heard as you work through what brings you there. I will not judge, direct or compel you, rather will walk alongside you with a metaphorical torch, illuminating whatever you wish to look at as we go.
My view is that, regardless of theory or approach, it is the relationship client and therapist build together, and the attunement therein, that most influences therapeutic outcomes, and I strive to provide the conditions for us to do this successfully.
My first session
I offer in person, online and telephone counselling sessions, depending on your preference, location and availability.
I can be contacted by completing the form on this page, or by email via my website, and I aim to respond within 48 hours. It can then be helpful to have a free 15 minute phone call, to give us both a chance to share a bit more detail, discuss any questions and decide on a time we can meet for our first session.
Our first session lasts the full 50 minutes and is charged at the normal rate. It is often described as an assessment session, for both of us, time to get to know each other better, for you to consider whether you think you would benefit from working with me, and for me to understand what you are looking for from counselling, and to answer any questions you have about me or the process.
Following the initial meeting, if we decide we want to work together, we will agree the timing and duration of sessions based on what suits you.
