About me and my therapy practice
Life can feel like a struggle, but it doesn’t need to feel that way. I know the value of having someone to support you to find better ways of adapting and coping with the challenges life can give us.
As a holistic integrative counsellor my approach is centred on you. It allows me to draw on other approaches that recognise the uniqueness of yourself and your personal circumstances. We can work together to help you explore the issues that are affecting you and help you find your own answers to cope better with your problems. Where appropriate, I can draw on psychodynamic theories to help you explore your past, present and future.
Counselling is my second career. Before retraining in counselling I worked for over 35 years in health and social care as well as university education where I taught medical students communication skills and supported their wellbeing. I also have a MSc in Gerontology and a PhD in Communication in Health.
I have had my own firsthand experience of the value of counselling that helped me so much. Because of this and my desire to work with people needing the kind of support I received I felt a powerful pull to train as a counsellor.
Over my life I have developed a passion for listening to what really matters to people and hearing what they are really telling me. My personal and professional life experience has bought me to this second career and there is little that fulfils me more than working in a counselling relationship with clients.
Practice description
I work online with Zoom and face-to-face in Hethersett, Norwich.
I offer a free initial phone call: We would speak on the phone to get a sense of what you are looking for and what I can offer. This would be up to 20-minutes. If we both felt we would like to find out more about each other we would book our first session.
My first session
Our first session would be a no obligation assessment session to see if we are a good fit. This is a full 50-minute session to discuss in more detail your needs and hopes. This assessment session is about our both deciding if we can work together. I need to be sure I have the right skills to support you, and you need to feel comfortable with the idea of working with me.
We would complete some paperwork together including our contract. This contract informs our work together and is a written, signed understanding of how we will work together and what we both agree to.
