About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes something doesn鈥檛 feel right, in yourself, your child, or your family, but it can be hard to explain why.
You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or noticing changes in behaviour, emotions, or relationships. Often, people come to counselling not because they have all the answers, but because something underneath doesn鈥檛 feel settled.
I offer counselling for adults, and counselling with play as therapy for children and young people. My approach is calm, practical, and trauma-informed, with a strong focus on building a safe, trusting relationship where things can be explored at your pace.
Your story is yours, you only share what you want to share. There is no expectation to have everything figured out or to find the right words.
I work with the understanding that behaviour and emotional responses are forms of communication. Rather than focusing on quick fixes, we take time to make sense of what鈥檚 going on underneath, experiences, patterns, and feelings that may not yet have words.
With adults, this may involve exploring stress, anxiety, low mood, life changes, or past experiences that continue to have an impact. With children and young people, play offers a natural and supportive way to express thoughts and feelings, helping them feel understood and more settled in themselves.
My role is not to tell you what to do, but to work alongside you, helping you build awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop a clearer sense of yourself and your relationships.
I aim to offer a space that feels steady, non-judgemental, and genuinely supportive. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or your child, we can begin with a simple conversation to see if this feels like the right fit.
Practice description
Starting counselling can feel like a big step. You don鈥檛 need to have everything figured out before getting in touch.
In our sessions, we will take things at your pace. You can bring whatever feels important, whether that鈥檚 something specific or just a sense that things don鈥檛 feel quite right. There is no expectation to have the 鈥渞ight words鈥.
Sessions last up to 60 minutes and are offered in person in Cawdor, near Inverness, or online. I offer a consistent, confidential space where you can begin to explore your thoughts and feelings safely.
Over time, we may begin to notice patterns, how your experiences connect, and how they may be shaping how things feel in the present. This can help you develop a clearer understanding of yourself and create space for change.
For children and young people, sessions may include play and creative approaches alongside talking. This creates a space where they can express themselves in ways that feel more natural, without pressure, and begin to feel more settled and understood.
I work in a person-centred way, meaning I won鈥檛 direct or judge, but will support you to make sense of your experiences in your own way. Alongside this, I bring a calm, practical and trauma-informed approach.
If you鈥檙e considering counselling, you鈥檙e welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation to see if it feels like the right fit.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet and begin to get a sense of whether working together feels right.
There is no expectation to share everything straight away. Your story is yours, and you can talk about whatever feels comfortable for you.
We will take things at your pace. Some people come with something specific they want to talk about, while others are less sure. Both are completely okay.
I will explain how I work, including confidentiality and its limits, and answer any questions you may have. This is also a space for you to get a feel for the process and decide whether you would like to continue.
For children and young people, the first session may include time to gently introduce the space and begin building trust, using play or creative approaches where appropriate.
Sessions are charged at the standard rate.
