About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I鈥檓 Mike, a counsellor working with adults, children and young people.
Your story is your story. You only need to share what feels right, when it feels right. A lot of people I work with say they don鈥檛 know where to begin at first, and that鈥檚 okay.
Life doesn鈥檛 always fall apart loudly. Sometimes people come to counselling because something has happened. Sometimes they come because they鈥檝e been coping for so long that they no longer know what 鈥渙kay鈥 is supposed to feel like.
I offer a calm, confidential space where there鈥檚 no pressure to have the right words, and where we can slowly begin making sense of things together.
Alongside counselling, my background in education, pastoral support and youth justice has shaped my understanding of behaviour, belonging, emotional safety, and the importance of feeling genuinely heard and understood.
I hold an HND in Counselling and a Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People.
Practice description
Sometimes something doesn鈥檛 feel right, in yourself, your child, or your family, but it can be difficult to explain why.
You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, low in mood, stuck in patterns that no longer seem to help, or simply carrying more than feels manageable on your own.
Parents sometimes reach out when they鈥檝e noticed changes in their child鈥檚 emotions, behaviour, confidence or wellbeing and want a space to better understand what may be going on underneath.
Adult counselling sessions take place from my cottage in Cawdor in a calm and private setting. Children and young people鈥檚 sessions are held in a separate community space designed to feel safe, relaxed and supportive. Online sessions are also available across the UK.
My first session
The first session is a chance for us to meet and begin getting a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
There is no expectation to share everything straight away. Your story is your story, and you only need to share what feels right, when it feels right.
Some people come with something very specific they want to talk about. Others simply know that something doesn鈥檛 feel quite right. Both are completely okay.
I鈥檒l explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and talk through practical things such as confidentiality and what counselling might look like going forward.
We take things one step at a time.
