About me and my therapy practice
My journey into working as a counsellor began after I first experienced counselling as a client.
I realised how valuable counselling can be, allowing you to be seen, heard, and accepted as you are. I also realised that I had been developing relevant knowledge and skills during my time working in education and the charity sector.
I undertook Level 2 and 3 training with York Learning, and then started my postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Counselling at York St John University, gaining my qualification in March 2026. I began working with clients in January 2024.
An important aspect of my work is that I am very aware of social and environmental justice issues, and the importance of acknowledging these in therapy. In my work, I seek to support you, but also recognise the society we live in and the pressures it can put on us.
I also see the power in working in a LGBTQIA+ affirming and neuro-affirming way.
Practice description
I believe you are the expert in you. Using a person-centred approach, I will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and worries. I provide a space where you can feel held and supported - I will listen, ask questions, and gently challenge when appropriate.
While my approach is broadly person-centred, it is also integrative - I adopt elements of other counselling approaches when appropriate, and will adapt my approach to your needs and our developing relationship.
My first session
Our first interaction will be a free 20 minute consultation - typically over the phone or a video call.
In this call we'll both introduce ourselves, I'll tell you about how I work, and there will be space for us to share anything important and ask any questions - there's no such thing as a silly question!
