About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, EMDR practitioner and mental health nurse. I specialise in supporting people who have experienced trauma and who find it difficult to manage their emotions, behaviours and relationships. This may include relationships with family, friends, partners or work colleagues.

At times, clients may not be able to identify a specific traumatic experience, yet they are left with a sense of always being on the outside, not fitting in or having low self-esteem. They may struggle to feel connected to, or understood by, others.

Trauma can often lead to critical beliefs about the self. People may experience high levels of anxiety, low tolerance of stimulating environments or events, and difficulty feeling safe or settled.

I use a range of therapeutic approaches to support you in building your ability to self-regulate. This can help with day-to-day functioning, emotional wellbeing and your relationship with yourself and others.

We will work together to explore whether EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, or other forms of therapy may help you move towards greater understanding, stability and fulfilment.

Practice description

In my practice, you鈥檒l find a calm, confidential space where you can speak freely and feel heard without judgment. You won鈥檛 be offered quick fixes or strategies 鈥 instead, you鈥檒l be supported in understanding yourself more fully.

I will help you make sense of what you're feeling, deepen your self-awareness, and discover more grounded and meaningful ways of relating to yourself and others. Through our work together, you'll be supported in building resilience to navigate life鈥檚 inevitable ups and downs

My first session

The first session can often feel nerve-racking. It may feel as though there is a 鈥渞ight鈥 way to be or a 鈥渞ight鈥 way to present yourself. However, there is no right or wrong way to begin therapy. I am very used to supporting people as they explore and describe what is happening for them, what has happened in the past, and what they would like to gain from coming to therapy.

The first session forms part of a wider assessment, which usually takes place over four to six sessions. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to begin understanding your needs, experiences and goals.

During this process, I may ask you questions about your family history, childhood, the background to your current difficulties, coping strategies, and your mental and physical health history. We will go at a pace that feels manageable for you, and you will not be expected to share everything at once.
