About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Sarah, an integrative counsellor committed to supporting clients as they reconnect with themselves, overcome life's challenges and move forward with greater confidence, self-understanding and resilience.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in caring roles and understand how easily our own needs can become overlooked when we are focused on supporting others.

I have a particular interest in supporting people who have spent much of their lives putting the needs of others before their own. This may include unpaid carers, people recovering from controlling or abusive relationships, those affected by childhood trauma, individuals navigating menopause, or anyone struggling following the breakdown of an important relationship.

Many people come to therapy feeling exhausted, disconnected from themselves and unsure of who they are or what they need anymore. They may feel as though they have lost confidence, lost their voice, or become a shadow of the person they once were. They often struggle with self-worth, boundaries and prioritising their own needs.

My aim is to provide a safe and supportive space where you can begin to reconnect with yourself, understand the patterns that have shaped your life, and rediscover your strengths. Together, we can work towards building self-compassion, confidence and a stronger sense of identity, helping you move from simply surviving to living a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

Practice description

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs. At the heart of my work is a person-centred philosophy; I believe that you are the expert on your own life and that meaningful change happens within a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship.

Depending on your needs, I may draw on a range of approaches including Transactional Analysis (TA), attachment theory, psychoeducation, mindfulness and body awareness techniques. These can help you understand yourself more clearly, recognise unhelpful patterns and develop new ways of coping.

I offer counselling in person, online and through walk-and-talk sessions in nature for those who find it easier to talk side-by-side while moving outdoors. Many people find it easier to talk side by side in nature while moving outdoors. Being in nature can also help create a sense of calm and perspective. Gentle movement, fresh air and connection to the natural environment can also support regulation and help reduce feelings of stress, overwhelm and anxiety.

Together we may explore current difficulties, relationship patterns, emotions, beliefs about yourself and the coping strategies you have developed over time. Alongside understanding what has happened to you, therapy can also help identify your strengths, build resilience and support positive change.

Some clients come with a specific issue they would like to address, while others arrive feeling overwhelmed, stuck or unsure where to begin. Whatever brings you to therapy, we will work collaboratively to find an approach that feels right for you.

I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling depending on your needs and goals.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute initial telephone consultation to give you an opportunity to ask any questions and decide whether counselling with me feels right for you.

The first counselling session is charged at my standard rate and provides an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another. We will explore what has brought you to counselling, discuss your current difficulties and what you hope to gain from therapy. I will also ask some assessment questions to help me understand your circumstances, wellbeing and support needs.

The first session is an opportunity for us both to decide whether we feel we can work together. Finding the right counsellor is important, and I encourage clients to take the time they need to decide whether I am the right fit for them.

At the end of the session, we can discuss any next steps and whether you would like to continue with further counselling sessions.
