Practice description

Hello,

I’m Kathy, a qualified and highly experienced trauma therapist and lecturer, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø) and Chartered College of Teaching. I am DSB Registered and work in an ethical, confidential and evidence-informed practice.

With years of proven, hands-on expertise working with vulnerable children, adults and families, I support client recovery and facilitate positive change, helping people from all backgrounds. My background incorporates years as a social worker and as a lecturer in health and social care. Today, I continue to work as an online support worker for the Rape Crisis Centre.

I’ve just completed an MA in Trauma Informed Practice and combined with my lived experience; I offer genuine compassion and have an innate understanding how to help my clients. People worry that trauma therapy will force them to dig up painful memories or push them into emotional overwhelm. That's not how I work. We start by creating stability and understanding, so you feel grounded first, not more unstable.

Trauma isn’t always dramatic or obvious, it often eaves invisible wounds. Trauma-informed therapy recognises how distressing life experiences – whether sudden or prolonged, can shape your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and nervous system responses in the present to help you powerfully turn things around.

My first session

I offer face-to-face, online, home-visits, and walk & talk sessions outdoors in nature. Counselling sessions cost £60 and last 50 minutes. An initial assessment session lasts 1 hour session and is FREE.

I also offer £40.00 concession fee for families on low income.

What happens during our sessions

People worry that trauma therapy will force them to dig up painful memories or push them into emotional overwhelm. That's not how I work. We start by building a foundation of trust to create stability and understanding, so that you begin to feel truly seen and heard as the part of the therapeutic process.

â¶Ä‹We build a stable base before anything else: Before we explore what happened in the past or make big changes, we strengthen the ground beneath you. This means you leave sessions feeling more capable, not emotionally drained or unable to cope with daily life.

Tailored sessions to what you actually need: Some people need to understand why they keep repeating the same patterns. Others need practical tools to help them get through the day. Some need to process specific experiences they've never talked about. We always start where you are at.

You set the pace: You're never pushed to share more than you're ready for. Therapy should feel safe, not scary. We go at your pace, and you decide what we focus on.
