About me and my therapy practice
With over 24 years experience, I am extremely passionate about helping and supporting people to improve their emotional wellbeing and mental health in today’s world where there are so many stresses and strains. I provide a safe, warm and empathic space, where we will work closely together to understand the difficulties you may be experiencing so that we can make sense of these and move towards change. I believe sincerely in evidenced-based talking therapies and the power they have to facilitate this. I offer individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults, and therapy for couples and families too.
I have a wealth of experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, bereavement, conflictual relationships, low self-esteem, emotional regulation and neurodivergence. I offer CBT, IPT, ACT, NVR, EMDR, DBT and systemic practice, and work collaboratively with my clients to determine which feels the best fit for them.
I adopt a holistic, person-centred, compassionate approach to therapy based on the needs of the people I am working with. I am mindful that within a therapeutic relationship a person must feel safe and contained so that they are able to share and feel held. If you feel ready to begin your therapuetic journey today please do get in contact for a consultation.
Practice description
I offer both short and long term interventions based on the needs of the people I am working with. Typically, a short term intervention may be 6 sessions and a longer term intervention could last for many sessions. The intervention is always guided by and agreed with those I am working with. I provide a regular space for us to review our work together and the progress made, discuss any difficulties experienced and to seek feedback to ensure that those I am working with feel their needs are being met and we are working towards their goals.
I offer both virtual and in-person therapy sessions to accommodate different needs. Virtual sessions can be accessed from anywhere across the UK and face to face therapy sessions are based in St Albans or Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire.
Prior to starting therapy, I offer an initial free (up to half an hour) online session free of charge so that those I work with feel there is a good fit and they have space to ask any questions before committing to therapy.
I have a clear confidentiality policy which adheres to the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Ethical Framework. All notes and data are stored safely and securely using an encrypted computer system. This offers a high level of security and is compliant with GDPR.
My first session
Sessions typically last for 50 minutes except for the initial one which can last up to 90 minutes. This is because I find that within the first formal session people usually have a lot to share and I do not wish to cut them short. Sessions usually take place weekly at least to begin as I find this is the best way to form a positive therapeutic relationship which can propel the intervention forwards supporting people to achieve the changes they wish to, but again this may vary depending on circumstances.
