About me and my therapy practice

Life is really difficult at the moment, and everything feels so unsettled. On top of that, the things that are happening to us in our internal worlds and personal lives means that it feels like there's no escape from it all.

I integrate five models of therapy, so instead of just listening to your problems and nodding along, I weave in elements of these different approaches to help you understand yourself better and work through the things that are affecting your day-to-day life.

Our early childhood experiences and attachment styles can shape how we live and relate to others in our present lives, and I believe exploring these, alongside the issues you're going through, is fundamental to therapy.

Whether you're dealing with ADHD, coming out, family or relationship issues, trauma, or whatever it is, all these things can be impacted or worsened by what's happening in the wider world. It's important to factor this in when working together, as external influences can compound how we're already feeling,

Alongside this, I introduce practical techniques to help soothe and regulate your nervous system when unexpected moments threaten to overwhelm us, which helps you to get through each day better and rebuild your confidence, whilst easing low mood. This is all wrapped up in a safe and trustworthy space that's created between us; everything is confidential (unless there's a serious risk of harm) and held within the ethical guidance set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

By connecting these five models and applying the best and most relevant parts of them to the stuff that you're going through, it means you benefit from an approach completely tailored to you (that actually helps you!).

Oh, and there's no 'homework' to do (unless you want to)!

Practice description

At Oliver North Psychotherapy (ON Psych), I provide in-person and remote psychotherapeutic support designed for deep exploration, processing difficult experiences and working towards change.

I believe everyone deserves the chance to explore their true potential, to work towards their aspirations, and to live a happy life, as free from pain and hurt as possible. We're all unique, with very different ways of experiencing life and our own inner worlds.

This means we respond to things in totally different ways to how even the closest people to us do. My approach offers a confidential space where there's no judgment, somewhere to say the things you're not able to with others, and a place to gain a deeper insight into why you feel the way you do, and how to manage it.

Core Areas of Clinical Focus:

Trauma & PTSD: Safely processing the physical and emotional legacy of past experiences to help your nervous system step out of chronic vigilance.

Neurodivergence: Navigating sensory overload, executive fatigue, and the quiet, wearing exhaustion of masking in a world not designed for your processing style.

Men's Mental Health: A direct, grounded space to address emotional containment, performance pressure, and relational patterns without judgement.

Relational Trauma & Abuse: Resolving the complex dynamics childhood attachment injuries, and repeating relationship cycles.

Burnout, Anxiety & Depression: Dismantling chronic stress, flat motivation, and low mood to restore real-time regulation and mental clarity.

Institutional Contracts (Schools, Corporates & Community):

Alongside private practice with adults, I'm trained in counselling children and young people (ages 7 to 17). I'm available for partnerships with schools, residential children's homes, and community organisations looking for a therapist to support young people.

My first session

Before we begin, we'll start with a free, confidential 20-minute consultation over the phone. This is a pressure-free opportunity to connect, discuss what's bringing you to therapy, and ensure my integrative approach is the right fit for your needs before any clinical or financial commitment.

Once we've agreed to work together, onboarding is entirely digital and seamless. I'll send you a short, open-ended contract to sign online before our first session.

What to Expect:

Our first 50-minute session is more about getting to know each other and ensuring you feel comfortable; it's an opportunity for you to tell you story, what's been going on for you and what you'd like to work on. Sessions are a collaborative workspace where we begin mapping your internal landscape and identifying the immediate cycles keeping you stuck. We'll explore things like:

Presenting issues: Exploring the immediate challenges, repeating relational patterns, or stressors that are impacting your daily life right now.

The target of change: Clarifying what you want to resolve, process, or fundamentally build for your future.

The clinical blueprint: Formulating a bespoke plan, matching your unique processing style and history with the right combination of techniques and theory.

This first session sets a clear path forward, ensuring we go at a pace that works for you; you're in control of what we talk about and I'm here to absorb it, offer some perspective and guide you through managing it all.
