About me and my therapy practice
I understand that starting counselling can feel like a big step. Whether you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, struggling in relationships, coping with loss or change, or simply sense that something does not feel quite right, you do not have to face it alone.
As an integrative relational counsellor, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change. My aim is to provide a warm, accepting and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace, without worrying about saying the "right" thing.
I tailor my approach to each individual, drawing on different therapeutic models to meet your unique needs rather than following a one size fits all approach. Together, we will explore your experiences, develop a deeper understanding of yourself and identify what feels important to you, supporting you to make the changes that feel right for you.
Practice description
Counselling with me is collaborative and led by you. Some clients come with a clear idea of what they want to work on, while others simply know that something isn't quite right. Wherever you are starting from, we will begin there together.
My role is to listen, help you make sense of your thoughts, feelings and what you are experiencing, and support you in understanding patterns that may be affecting your life and relationships.
Many people find that having a confidential space where they feel genuinely heard allows them to explore thoughts and feelings they have never shared before. My role is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can do this without judgement.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, bereavement, life transitions, low self-esteem and feeling stuck. I recognise that every person's experiences are unique, so our work together will always be shaped around your individual needs, goals and pace.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin exploring what has brought you to counselling. There is no pressure to tell me everything straight away, and you are welcome to share only what feels comfortable.
We'll talk about what you hope to gain from counselling, discuss any questions or concerns you may have, and look at how we might work together. I'll also explain practical aspects such as confidentiality, the counselling agreement and how sessions are structured, giving you the opportunity to ask anything that's on your mind.
The first session is as much about you deciding whether I feel like the right counsellor for you as it is about beginning therapy. If you would prefer, I also offer a free initial telephone conversation before booking your first appointment which is around 20 minutes where you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit
