About me and my therapy practice
Starting therapy can feel daunting. You might have been thinking about it for a while, or perhaps something has happened that has left you feeling overwhelmed, stuck or unsure where to turn. Whatever has brought you here, you don't need to have everything worked out before we meet.
I see therapy as a space to slow things down and make sense of what's been happening beneath the surface. Together we'll explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences with curiosity rather than judgement, helping you understand not only what you're feeling, but why. Often, when we begin to understand ourselves differently, change starts to feel more possible.
As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I don't believe one approach suits everyone. Some people find it helpful to talk things through, while others prefer a more collaborative way of working, using practical ideas and different therapeutic approaches to understand recurring patterns and develop new ways of coping. We'll find a way of working that feels right for you.
I work with adults and young people aged 16+, supporting people experiencing anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life changes and substance misuse. Alongside my private practice, I have experience working with young people in specialist education and with individuals affected by addiction, giving me an understanding of the different challenges people can face at different stages of life.
Above all, I believe therapy is about feeling heard, understood and accepted. My hope is that you leave each session with a greater understanding of yourself and the confidence to make choices that feel right for you.
Practice description
Looking for the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially when every profile seems to say something similar. I believe one of the most important parts of therapy is finding someone you feel comfortable with.
When we work together, you'll find a space where you can speak openly without feeling judged or pressured. Whether you're coming with a specific issue or simply a sense that life doesn't feel quite right, we can take the time to explore what's been happening and what you need from therapy.
I work with adults and young people aged 16+ in person from Skipton and online across the UK. My experience includes supporting people with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions and substance misuse. I have also worked extensively with young people in specialist education, supporting a wide range of social, emotional and mental health needs.
I know that asking for help isn't always easy, and I don't expect you to have the right words or know where to begin. Therapy isn't about being analysed or told what to do. It's about having the time and space to understand yourself more fully, recognise patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and discover new ways of responding to life's challenges.
Above all, I aim to build a genuine therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected and able to be yourself. I believe meaningful change comes through understanding, trust and working together at a pace that feels right for you.
My first session
Before arranging a first appointment, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. This gives us the opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and decide whether we feel we are a good fit to work together.
Before your first session, I'll send you a therapy agreement to read and sign. This outlines important information about confidentiality, fees, cancellations and how we'll work together, so you know what to expect from the outset.
Your first therapy session lasts 50 minutes and is charged at my standard fee. There is no formal assessment, and I don't expect you to tell me everything about yourself straight away. Instead, the first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, explore what has brought you to therapy, and discuss what you hope to gain from our work together.
I'll also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and ensure you feel comfortable with the process. You are welcome to go at your own pace—there is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready.
