About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Kayley, a CPCAB-qualified integrative counsellor in private practice. I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel truly heard, and explore whatever may be bringing you to counselling.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for many years across social care, mental health and community support services. My experience includes supporting adults with learning disabilities and working as a Social Prescriber within GP surgeries. Through these roles, I worked alongside people experiencing a wide range of emotional, social and practical challenges, including periods of change, vulnerability and uncertainty.
These experiences continue to shape my counselling practice today, giving me a grounded understanding of how life's pressures, relationships and past experiences can affect our wellbeing. They have also reinforced my belief in the importance of feeling safe, accepted and understood.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred, Gestalt and Psychodynamic theory. This allows me to tailor therapy to your unique needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we can explore the connections between your past and present experiences, increase self-awareness, and develop greater self-compassion and understanding.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. I am not here to judge, rush you or tell you what to do. Instead, I offer a calm, steady presence and a genuine belief in each person's capacity for growth, healing and change. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you make sense of your experiences and supporting you in finding a way forward that feels right for you.
Practice description
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, life changes, struggles with self-esteem, the impact of difficult past experiences, or simply a sense that something doesn't feel quite right. Whatever your reason for seeking support, counselling can offer a dedicated space to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
I offer both online and face-to-face counselling sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, with appointments available between 9:00am and 8:00pm.
For face-to-face work, I provide counselling from a variety of comfortable and welcoming settings in and around Midsomer Norton, including a beautiful wooden lodge in Writhlington, a private room on a working farm in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, and a counselling space within my own home in Midsomer Norton. I also offer online sessions for those who are further afield or prefer the flexibility of remote therapy.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative and tailored to you. Together, we can explore what is happening in your life, identify recurring patterns, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and work towards meaningful and lasting change.
Choosing a counsellor can feel like an important decision, which is why I offer a free 15 to 30-minute telephone or online consultation. This gives us an opportunity to meet, discuss what has brought you to counselling, and explore whether we feel like a good fit to work together. There is no obligation to continue if it does not feel right for you.
Whether you are looking for short-term support around a specific issue or seeking longer-term therapeutic work, I aim to provide a safe, accepting and confidential space where you can feel supported throughout your journey.
My first session
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and it's completely natural to feel nervous, uncertain, or unsure of what to expect. That's why I offer a free 15 to 30-minute telephone or online assessment before we begin working together. This gives us an opportunity to meet, discuss what has brought you to counselling, and explore whether we feel like a good fit to work together, with no obligation to continue.
If you decide to book a first session, this will be a chance for us to begin getting to know one another and to create a foundation for our work together.
During the session, we'll explore what has brought you to counselling, what is currently happening in your life, and what you hope to gain from therapy. There is no pressure to share everything straight away. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and you are free to bring whatever feels most important.
I will also explain how I work, discuss confidentiality and its limits, answer any questions you may have, and gather some background information to help me understand your experiences and circumstances more fully.
The first session is as much an opportunity for you to decide whether I am the right counsellor for you as it is for me to understand how I can best support you. Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is an important part of counselling, and finding someone you feel comfortable with matters.
My aim is to provide a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, accepted and supported. By the end of our first session, we can begin to explore what ongoing counselling might look like and whether working together feels right for you.
