About me and my therapy practice
If you're facing bereavement, a cancer diagnosis, or the effects of trauma, you may be carrying things you can't easily say to the people closest to you.
I'm Gareth Vaughan, a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 15 years' experience — including NHS cancer teams, hospice and specialist bereavement services, and NHS Talking Therapies. I offer a calm, confidential space where you can say the difficult things out loud and begin to make sense of them.
Grief and illness are where much of my work sits, but they're not all of it. I also work with anxiety, panic and burnout, depression and low self-esteem, trauma and abuse, relationship difficulties, and questions of identity, including LGBTQ+ concerns.
I work integratively, which means I adapt the therapy to you rather than fitting you to a method. We'll go at your pace, and review as we go to make sure it's working.
I offer a free 15-minute call before you commit to anything — no cost, no obligation, just a chance to see whether we're a good fit.
Practice description
My professional experience has been built in settings where loss and illness are everyday realities:
NHS Talking Therapies, supporting people with depression and anxiety Hospice care and specialist bereavement services An NHS cancer care team University counselling services
That background means I'm comfortable sitting with things people often feel they can't say elsewhere — anticipatory grief, anger at someone who has died, fear of recurrence, the exhaustion of being the strong one.
Qualifications
BSc (Hons) Counselling Psychology, Diploma in Counselling, Certificate in Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Certificate in Clinical Supervision, and MBCT-trained Mindfulness Teacher. I'm an Accredited Member of ÌÇÐĹÙÍø and a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society.
Fees
£70 for a 50-minute session, with concessionary rates from £50 for people on a low income, keyworkers, OAPs, students, trainee counsellors and refugees. Just mention it when you get in touch — you won't need to explain yourself or provide evidence.
I accept EAP referrals and work with BUPA and Health Assured.

About me and my therapy practice
If you're sitting with client work that stays with you after the session ends — grief, traumatic loss, a client facing a terminal diagnosis — you need a supervisor who has been in that room too.
I'm a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited counsellor and supervisor holding a BPS-approved SDS Accreditation in Clinical Supervision (CSAccred. AAC). My own practice has been built in hospice care, specialist bereavement services, acute NHS cancer teams, NHS Talking Therapies, and university counselling.
Who I work with
Counsellors working with bereavement, loss, trauma or life-limiting illness Trainees on placement, including those working towards qualification and registration Qualified counsellors in private practice Counsellors in agency, hospice or NHS settings carrying heavy or complex caseloads
You don't need to work in my specialist areas for us to work well together — but if you do, you'll spend less time explaining the context and more time on the work.
I offer a free 30-minute conversation before you commit to anything.
Practice description
Supervision should be somewhere you can bring the session that unsettled you, the client you're not sure you're helping, and the doubt you'd rather not admit to — and come away steadier.
I work within Proctor's three-function model and Hawkins and Shohet's Seven-Eyed Model, attending to your development, your ethical and professional standards, and your support needs, as well as the wider system the work sits in. In practice:
Space to think about the clients who stay with you Support with ethical decisions, safeguarding and risk Attention to vicarious trauma and your sustainability in this work Developing your skills and confidence, not just checking compliance Preparation for accreditation, if that's where you're heading
Fees
Individual supervision, 60 minutes — £60 Individual supervision, 90 minutes — £90 Trainees on placement, 60 minutes — £55
Employer-funded supervision welcome; I can invoice your organisation directly.
Practical details
I currently have capacity for new supervisees. Sessions monthly, fortnightly, or as your caseload and professional body require. I provide written confirmation of supervision hours for accreditation and registration purposes.
Available in person, online via Microsoft Teams, or by telephone, with day and evening appointments.
I work within the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions at all times.
My first session
In our first session together, we’ll take time to get to know each other and explore what you need from supervision. We will:
Discuss your current practice – including your client work, settings, and any areas of focus or challenge.
Clarify expectations – what you would like from supervision and what I can offer.
Agree on practical details – frequency, length of sessions, and preferred format (in-person or online).
Review ethical considerations – including confidentiality, safeguarding, and working within the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Ethical Framework.
Set goals – such as developing confidence, managing risk, self-care, and enhancing your professional growth.
This initial session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether my approach feels like the right fit for you.
