About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative psychotherapist. This means that I integrate theory and approaches from various models in my work as I believe that no one single approach can meet the complexity of each individual's needs; every person in the world is unique and events are experienced differently depending on a person's past experiences, past relationships, cultural/socio-political background, neurotype and the context in which we live. Our work begins with understanding your perspective - how your past, relationships, culture and current circumstances shape what you're feeling today.
Whilst I am inherently person-centred in my approach, I also offer motivational interviewing as an approach to help you locate answers from within, without the influence of those around you.
I offer a warm, respectful space where you can speak openly and feel genuinely heard. Together, we'll explore your feelings, make sense of your thoughts and understand what you need. My aim is to support you through whatever you are facing and to help you move toward greater clarity, resilience and emotional wellbeing.
Practice description
Searching for a therapist is the first positive step towards making changes in your life yet I understand it can also be a daunting process. My aim is to make this process as comfortable for you as possible by respectfully supporting any challenges you face whilst helping you locate your inner resources for personal growth in a way that feels right for you.
In a world that is fast-paced, it is all too easy to lose ourselves, being swept up in a cycle of constant productivity, digital fatigue and instant gratification. I can support your journey by providing space, a time to pause, reflect on the past and to re-evaluate the direction your life is heading.
My approach is two-fold:
Progressive and interactive: I will highlight behaviour patterns I notice, explore the roots of behaviour with you that may be causing conflict or tension, help you make sense of how you have arrived at your current life position and support you to develop healthier, more adaptive behaviours that are more suitably aligned to you and your values.
My goal is to support you to live a happier, more fulfilling life, one that feels more true to yourself, to strengthen your inner self by feeling more self-assured and confident with who you are and to support you to develop more meaningful, healthy, supportive relationships in your life.
Safety and compassion: Feeling safe and not rushed is essential in therapy. My experience of working with vulnerable and hard-to-reach clients has taught me the importance of meeting people where they are and not where others think they should be, so you can heal from past and present events with a feeling of safety. I focus on building a trusting relationship at a pace that feels right for you, because this relationship is central to change.
My first session
The first session will involve more questions from me as it forms the assessment of my getting to know you and your history so I can gain a fuller picture of you. You will not need to write anything; I will ask questions and we will talk about your life up to this point of my meeting you.
We will also discuss your reasons for therapy and outline the goals you wish to achieve.
