About me and my therapy practice

I am a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø registered Gestalt Psychotherapist. I have been working in private practice since 2010.

Gestalt therapy is based on the principle that change occurs when we come to fully accept who we are, rather than who we think we are or should be. The focus is on exploring your direct experience in the present, as opposed to advice giving, interpretations or dwelling solely on the past.

I enjoy supporting people to increase their self awareness, restore their choices and increase their capacity to influence their lives in ways that lead to a better relationship with themselves, and in turn their wider world.

I love my work and value the relationships I create with my clients and my role in facilitating a process where long held beliefs, values and assumptions about self and others can be explored in the move towards a more meaningful life. I feel privileged to be part of this transformation process.

Gestalt therapy is creative and versatile and can be applied to most situations. I have particular expertise working with attachment related issues, sexuality, relational dynamics, trauma, stress and anxiety, impasse/stuckness, uncertainty, shame, transitions.

My psychotherapy work is deeply influenced by my longstanding interest in body process, yoga, Buddhism and existentialism.

I trained with Edinburgh Gestalt Institute from 2005-2009. I am currently undertaking a 3 year  â€˜Practice of Buddhism’ course with the Mindfulness Association concluding March 2027. I will be  commencing a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course with Caroline Foster at the Yoga Den, East Linton in January 2027.

I was raised in a working class Scottish family as one of seven siblings. This has directly shaped my value system and ethical stance as a person and therapist, and my commitment to issues of equality, diversity and social justice.

My previous career was as a local authority  Social Worker and Practice Teacher.

I abide by ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Code of Ethics, engage in regular  professional supervision and am insured.
